Types of cloud services

Cloud computing services are generally classified Into  three layers.

  • Infrastructure as a service(Iaas)
  • Software as  a service(saas)
  • Platform as a service(Paas)
Now, lets describe each of the here cloud computing Service briefly:

1) Infrastructure as a service(IaaS) Iaas provides the Raw materials of cloud computing such as Processing, storage and other forms of lower level Network and hardware resources in a virtual, on Demand manner via the internet.

Iaas users do not Need to manage or control the underlying cloud Infrastructure but have control over operating System, storage, deployed application software, etc. Typical Iaas examples are Amzon EC2( Elastic Cloud Computing) and S3 (simple storage service) Where computing and storage infrastructure are Open to public access in utility fashion. 


A user can Easily access tens of thousand of virtual servers From EC2 to run a business analysis and then Release them as soon as the computational work is Done.

2) Software as a service(saas): saas provides users With complete turnkey application trough the Internet, even complex systems such as those for Customer Relations Management(CRM) system.

This system provides users with complete CRM Applications as well as a user side customization Platform based on its paas by-product Force.com. 

Two types of customization are available-one is Point-and-click configuration that requires no Coding, the other is customizing with code that Allows developer to create new functionalities Beyond the constraints of configuration, with Apex-Salesforce.com´s own native programming language.

3) Platform as a service(Paas):Paas moves one step Further than Iaas by providing programming and Execution platform to use the user for developing Application software. 


A paas product acts as an Integrated design, develop, test and deploy Platform. To the user for developing application software. A Paas product acts as an integrated design, develop, Test and deploy platform. 

The paas user can create Applications using programming languages and Application programming Interfaces (APIs) supported by the provider, and then directly deploy The application into the provider´s cloud Infrastructure with a few click. 



The paas user Does Not manage or control the underlying cloud Infrastructure(including network, servers, operating system, or storage), but has control over The deployed applications and possibly application Hosting environment configurations. An example of paas is Google´s App Engine. 

Which enables users To build applications on the the same scalable Systems that power Google applications.


Google´s App Engine aims to enables users to easily Develop applications on the internet in collaboration With other developers from around the world.


To facilitate collaboration, paas providers often Intentionally cultivate online user communities and Marketplaces (e.g Google Apps Marketplace 1) Where developers can share, buy, and sell their Codes, products, and services to each other.


Iaas, Saas and Paas are inherently interrelated with each Building on the former.

These three layers reflect a Full spectrum of cloud computing services. Cloud computing has promised many technological and sociological benefits.
